Tostones

Tostones are twice fried plantain slices, fried twice for extra crispness.  Commonly found in Latin America they are a savory, starchy side dish when prepared in latin dishes. When the platano is ripened it turns yellow, like a banana and becomes sweet.  They are a rich source of fiber, vitamins A, C, and B-6. A real hidden superfood.  They are a nonseasonal crop so plantains are available all year long.
